GLIDE Housing

A Good Idea

Description

GLIDE Housing is made up of two separate non-profit entities that work closely together to create affordable housing in San Francisco's Tenderloin district. GLIDE Community Housing (GCH) provides supportive services, including the building and maintenance of housing buildings, and GLIDE Economic Development Corporation (GEDC) provides homes and economic stimulus to the area. Three buildings of housing units are provided by GLIDE Housing: one focuses on providing a safe atmosphere for residents who are working towards health and healing after drug and alcohol use and other harmful behaviors, the second houses families in safe, quality homes they typically would not be able to afford, and the third is designed to house people who have been chronically homeless and includes onsite supportive services for its residents. The program offers people a road out of poverty as they are better equipped to improve their lives with a safe place to call home.

Goal / Mission

GLIDE Housing provides housing and housing assistance to homeless families, individuals recovering from substance abuse, and individual who are chronically homeless.

Results / Accomplishments

GLIDE Housing has provided 189 homes for individuals and families. The GEDC development portfolio includes more than $100 million in affordable housing projects and encompasses a range of housing products, from high-rise to mid-rise construction. A number of local corporations and organizations have been involved in the funding, management, and services provided at the housing buildings.
